The Idol is a 2023 HBO original drama series that follows Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp), a pop idol who tries to bounce back after having a nervous breakdown while preparing to release a new single, film a music video, and go on tour. Jocelyn's public image is compromised when a sensitive photo of her is leaked and floods the news cycle--a photo which leaves her team thinking she will throw her off the rails like when her mother had passed away a year or two prior. During her breakdown, she meets Tedros (played by Abel "The Weeknd" Tesfaye), the owner of a club and leader of a contemporary cult. Tedros takes over Jocelyn's business dealings, music production, and home. The cult moves into Jocelyn's home with Tedros so it will be easier for them to work on music. Drugs and alcohol are a common theme each night in the house, along with never saying no as you are closing yourself off from experiences. In the end we see the cult group give a performance to Jocelyn's management team to convince them to take the whole act on tour, we see Jocelyn and Tedros fighting with Jocelyn getting her managers to remove Tedros from her and the other musicians' lives, and Jocleyn going on tour. The final scene is a cliffhanger where we see Tedros arrive at Jocelyn's show prior to the event, and being brought out and announced by Jocelyn as the love of her life.
